THE POLICE PROBLEM

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand how nobody in that train is not saying something as simple as "how do we know you're not criminals posing as cops"? When did you yanks get so complacent?

It's New York, people will take a shit on the subway and the other passengers might just get off a stop earlier.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Remember when someone was stabbed and everyone just walked by without helping in NYC

Imagine watching WWII movies about SS and Gestapo harassing people for "papers" and assaulting them and thinking, "I want to be that guy".

Boy did their parents fuck up. Mama never hugged you, huh? Fucking sociopaths.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I read your comment like

why would you want to be shoved around by Nazis? Took me a while to realise you're talking about someone wanting to be the Nazi shoving people. And you're god damn right. Fkin sociopaths who never got enough love.

Full face close up. Shouldn’t be too hard to get a name.

[–] user_name@lemmy.world 49 points 3 days ago

From Ice List he is Mike Duggan who also appears in the ProPublica NYPD files. Racist, fascist scumbag.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 49 points 4 days ago (2 children)

They way their faces are uncovered and the "don't give a shit, I'm just tired.." looks on that guys face.. Is that a NY cop?

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No. NY resident. The NYPD will have their badges out and come in strong. If it was six guys I'd say it was NYPD.

That "cop" is clearly fucking drunk. I know that bloated dead look and chewing gum like a cow chewing cud.

[–] Sculptor9157@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago

That's just the way cops chew gum. They also say "okay" the same dismissing way that sounds exactly like their tongue is in their cheek when enunciating.

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 27 points 3 days ago (6 children)

How have these "agents" not been shot already? Where are all the guns that Americans love so much? Isn't this exactly what arming yourself is for?

[–] this_1_is_mine@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

GTA is a lie you go 0 to 4 stars in one shot. 5 stars if you Luigi someone. Lifes unfair. good luck.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago

Because the people in this video wanted to live.

[–] bigpEE@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Felt like the guy was one wrong move away from a subway rumble. Someone should have beat his ass.

Edit: I was talking about the ICEHole

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 30 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Why didn't the conductor close the door on these guys?

[–] miked@piefed.social 19 points 3 days ago

Conductor must have known they were doing something.

Also, The ICE guy was flashing his light from side to side, probably towards the conductor. That is the signal to stop. Up and down is go.
