Prices will probably continue to go up a while yet.
A recent study claimed consumers currently pay only half the increased tariffs, and companies will obviously work on normalizing their profits, meaning that other half will also have to be paid.
Also the US dollar has been weak for 5 months now, that means that some goods are worth more on export markets than at home.
The American purchasing power is decreasing from a global perspective, making USA less interesting as an export market, and exports from USA more profitable.
This means there is very little downward pressure on prices, even as Americans are getting poorer and can afford less.

I think prices will continue to go up nearly forever. That's kinda how inflation works. Deflation is rare and usually a bad sign.
Inflation is normal, what we typically call inflation is when it's above the normal rate. The target rate by most national banks is 2% inflation.
That's the job of journalism: to report facts. But who thought it could be such a tedious job?

Someone's got to do it. Unless you shop repetively for specific items, its really hard to tell what's inflation vs. non sales weeks, marketing gimmicks and etc.
Go to a sit down spot, burgers are 12-25 bucks depending on the place.

Earlier this week I had to go back to my expenses/shopping records from last year and while I was there I decided to spend a few minutes comparing costs. I obviously knew shit is more expensive than in 2024, but I was still a bit surprised at just how much stuff has gone up.
And, yes it sucked when this happened in the covid years under the Biden administration, but at least then it was a worldwide phenomenon and there were logical reasons for it. This time around it's happening due to pure incompetence if not outright malice.
But also, why is fucking hot sauce up 20%? Coffee 50%? Hamburger almost double? I mean I'm glad the 5 gallon buckets I bought last year are down 10%, but those don't really put a dent in my weekly budget.
Something like over half the price increases are because the businesses are able to raise prices and consumers still buy. So high prices are in large part due to greed. The rest I assume are increased input costs and costs of doing business.
If Trump says it's over, it's over. Didn't you read hit MAGA cap? Diaper Donny was right about everything. If you can't pay your bills and groceries, it's your own fault. Trump did everything in his power to help rich people. If you're not rich, it's your fault. Next time, be rich instead of being poor. Just some advice. It's super simple. Can't buy a house? Just make sure you have a house to sell first, then you can buy a new house no problem. Think in solutions, not in poverty.

It's nice to see the "the economy is great for billionaires! Why are you complaining that you can't afford groceries?" crowd come around to the idea that lying about the economy to people who are struggling isn't a good thing.

Tariffs and inflation are only half the problem in my opinion. For some items, prices have increased and continue to increase for those 2 reasons. But there's a hell of a lot of items made right here on US soil that have increased far more than they should have. It's the egg bullshit all over again. Companies are using inflation and tariffs as an excuse to increase prices as high as possible. You know how I know that eggs or granola shouldn't cost $10? Because fresh local farm eggs cost $4.50 after they increased their price due to the cost of feed increasing. And I personally started making homemade granola and know that it doesn't cost nearly $10 per 16oz for the raw materials. Bunch of greedy fucks making a bad situation worse.
If only there were some sort of regulating agency that could investigate and punish businesses for price gouging. Someone should really look into that.
