Allowing such ideas (leaving Tuvix alive) to be even spoken onboard is a bad look for the captain.

How would recreating it make a duplicate Tuvix? The reason he came to be was one of the plant samples they had brought with them made the trsnsporter unable to seperate Tuvok, Neelix, and the plant from a single stream of data to deliver Tuvix aboard the ship. It's not, like, that time Riker got cloned.
I'd have thrown Tom out the window, too, for that suggestion.
The trasporter destroys your matter, stores it as information, and recreates you on the other side. They literally have the power to clone humans indefinitely, and to prevent death by restoring a "checkpoint" saved in the transporter buffer. They can absolutely take the pattern of tuvix and clone it while separating the two.
It's how they cured Dr. Pulaski that one and only time.
And Picard in that one weird episode where he gets posessed by an entity and decides to "merge" with it in the vacuum of space. Doesnt work out, and they beam his consciousness(?) back using an older pattern of him from the buffer who doesnt even remember what happened.
Imagine you are being beamup from a mission on a planet just for everyone to cheer and cry as you materialize. You are confused because they saw you 5 seconds ago but they explain that you died a gruesome death and got recovered from the last teleport buffer of you. How traumatic would that be?
I would immediately be figuring out how to get unsupervised access to the transporter so I could start photocopying myself
I'd contend that the world needs, at most, just one of me.
More room for mes
As the evil aliens are preparing to burn the bodies of the crew they murdered, Chakotay enters the room. "excuse me, can you be more careful with our bodies?"
It’s not, like, that time Riker got cloned
They could recreate that accident.
Something I made for a previous Tuvix post. Sadly I have forgotten the context.
I would clone Tuvix several times but change the mixture each time to create an army of unholy hybrids to conquer the quadrant.
I would kill Tuvix even if it didn't result in getting the other two back.
