I was wondering if কুট্টুস was a typical Bengali dog’s name or if it had a specific meaning!

From what I’ve read, Milou was the nickname of an ex-girlfriend of Hergé (her actual first name was Marie-Louise — Hergé wanted to marry her but her parents refused because he was too poor from their point of view...). I doubt the etymology had any part in the choice, it had probably more to do the fact that it sounds cute; or maybe it was some kind of private joke between them, who knows. (Also I’m a bit suspicious of the etymologies given by Copilot anyway.)

I love the panel with translations of Milou’s name. They’re actually not as diverse as I expected, most of them copy either the French or the English name. The Arabic, Chinese and Korean names are transcriptions of “Milou” and the Japanese and Thai names are transcriptions of “Snowy”. Unless I’m mistaken, “Struppi” comes from the German adjective “struppig”, which basically means “shaggy”.

I mean, me too, I still have several relatives who lived WWII as children. I just thought he was older, for some reason. I’m actually not very knowledgeable about comics, ha ha. I also used to believe Don Rosa was Italian, but that’s less surprising, considering his surname and Italian origins.

Oh, they’ve made a special cover for the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death ! That’s lovely.

From what I understand of this interview of a guy who wrote a comic featuring Puccini for this issue (in collaboration with another illustrator), the opera depicted might be La fanciulla del West ? (Funnily enough, the heroin of that opera is called “Minnie”.)

As far as I know, in France, there’s currently (at least) one Mickey Mouse magazine — « Le Journal de Mickey » — and (at least) two Scrooge McDuck magazine — « Picsou Magazine » and « Super Picsou géant ». I read Super Picsou géant occasionally as a kid, and from what I have seen in newspaper stores it still seems fairly popular among kids, but I have no idea who writes and draws the comics inside. I wouldn’t be surprised if some/most of them are translations of Italian comics.

Also, I haven’t read Mickey et L’Ocean Perdu, but I find it funny that its French scenarist has an Italian surname too (or maybe Corsican?).

Edit: WTF, Don Rosa is still alive! I mean, good for him, ha ha, I hope he’s going well. Since I always hear people describing him as a “classic” comic writer, I had mentally filed him in the “famous dead people” category, but it turns out he was only born in 1951 — sorry Don, enjoy your retirement.

Right?! I remember regularly seeing these strips in a children’s magazine when I was a kid (can’t remember which magazine). I was wondering if it would be disappointing to reread them as an adult, but they’re really clever!

Oui, je comprends le raisonnement, et j’avoue m’être régulièrement demandé par le passé, devant un de mes commentaires Reddit fraichement posté, « est-ce que ça mérite vraiment cet upvote ? », mais je ne suis jamais allée jusqu’à le retirer, sauf deux ou trois fois où j’ai pensé après coup avoir écrit un truc particulièrement peu pertinent mais pas débile au point de le supprimer. Bon, ça fait un moment que je cache les scores et les flèches de vote avec Stylus, donc ce n’est plus une question que je me pose.

Du coup j’ai été voir mon profil, la réputation n’est pas affichée publiquement (j’aime autant), mais on voit l’« attitude », qui est apparemment le pourcentage de votes positifs parmis ceux distribués par l’utilisateur, ou quelque chose d’approchant. La mienne est à 100 %, mais du coup ce sont tous des votes que je me suis automatiquement donnés à moi-même ; je me sens un peu honteuse, ha ha.

Edit : Du coup, c’est un peu dommage que les votes donnés à soi-même entrent dans le calcul de la réputation, j’espère que ça ne te causera pas de problème avec des modérateurs.
