It's crazy how much we pay just to be denied coverage as a cost savings measure.
It’s not the denied treatment that’s the problem. It’s the treatment they approve and then I still get a huge bill for a copay or deductible or some shit.
IIRC, someone did the math on something like a major surgery... in the US, if you have really good insurance, and don't run into those nasty surprises like some out-of-network doctor poking his head into your operation and asking if the main doc needs his ass scratched (which appears as roughly $13,000.00 on your bill); but if everything goes without a hitch...
...it'd still be like a quarter of the cost to just fly to Europe, have the operation done there, hang out there for two weeks in a hotel while you recover, food, gas, etc, and then fly back to the US.

I seriously doubt it was broken if you thought it was "fine". I've broken an unknown number fingers, toes, ribs, right arm (x2), and my femur. In every case, it was crippling, as in, that body part no go no more.
Had at least one concussion, little harder to judge those.
Guy was chewing me out on the phone, wanted my manager's name.
"Uh..." (His office door with his name plate was directly behind my desk.) "Uh..."
"You mean to tell me you don't know your own manager's name?!"
"Give me a break! I got in a motorcycle wreck yesterday and got a concussion, feeling a little dumb right now."
"Oh shit man! I'm so sorry. Didn't meant to go off like that."

Not common, but that can definitely happen, especially if it's only a partial fracture. I've had a few broken bones myself, and I'm with you: completely debilitating pain, zero ability to do things like hold weight.
I worked with a nurse that got fer foot rolled over by a patient gurney near the end of her shift. A few f-bombs later, and she limped her way to the locker room, changed, and went home, saying she'd surely be fine after some ibuprofen and sleep.
Next day she limped her way through an entire shift.
Then another entire shift. All the while we were joking at her about like breaking her spine then continuing to carry the groceries inside, shit like that.
...day three she shows up on one of those kneeling-scooter-things and a bulky splint on her foot/lower leg. Looks down all sheepishly "It was still hurting, so I went to urgent care. They x-rayed it... y'all were right: it's fucking broken!" ...fucker worked two shifts with a spiral fracture on her 5th metatarsal. She said it just felt sore.
Either she's a badass or I'm a little bitch (bit of both maybe), cuz I'd have rode an office chair or something all the way to the ER immediately after that first incident if that was me.
70-year old neighbor lady just found out she broke a bone in her arm… 3 months ago. She said it was sore but fine, got only worried after 3 months that she couldn’t lift that much weight with it or lift her arm over her head -.- she had a black and blue arm for a week, we told her to get it checked! Even worse: she is a retired doctor -.-
Yep. I broke my wrist, pretty much the same thing happened. I figured I just pinched a nerve, was going about my shit until I finally got badgered into going and getting an X-Ray.
Turns out, broken. Whoops.

I wonder if men in other countries are like American men. To me it's not a tough guy or cost thing, it's just that I've been to the doctor for so much bullshit that turned out to be nothing. I'm lazy as well. 🤷🏻
Per my doc, I have "emphysema light". Been short of breath lately. Doctor visit? Yeah, about every time, "It's allergies, I have it right now too." And it is. Also, I know how to fix it. Get off my ass and get some serious exercise and the problem resolves in a week or two.
Well not aussie it seems, if you're bitten by anything that's not your ex, you should visit the doc immediately.

One of my first jobs was working for a shitty movie theater where they had a scorpion infestation. I got stung on my finger taking out the trash and they just sent me home. Fell asleep/passed out with my finger in a cup of ice.
luckily small tails means less venomous, and large tailed stingers are venomous, you can also tell if they have large or small pincers, larger pincers are less venomous. different species have variations of this.
Yeah, luckily we don't get large scorpions here. It was just a little guy, still hurt a bunch and made my finger swell to an alarming size.

I dunno, I've fractured several bones. I'd say you will know. Like dad said about karate movies, one hit, that's a broken bone, he'd be down.
When you break shit, it no longer functions. Doesn't need to be a compound fracture, even a green-stick fracture will stop you cold.
I'm not talking a clean break. I've definitely never had that (and I've been through the ringer, believe me - concussion with amnesia and a torn mcl).
I'm talking about hairline fractures that didn't debilitate me, but were likely due to the sheer amount of pain, bruising, and swelling.
Doesn't even have to be a clean break to immobilize you. My first break was my right arm at 9-yo, on my birthday. Every thought I was being a wuss, because I was. Next day the doctor popped the X-ray on the wall light, "I TOLD YOU!".
Anyway, it was just a crack, not sure how to define it medically. I believe he called it a greenstick fracture, but after looking at pics, it wasn't that bad.
Cannot happen in the EU. Such shame.
