Transported as I currently am? No chance of being some other race like Vulcan Hybrid or maybe a 40k psyker?

Nah, I'm good.

[–] iamdefinitelyoverthirteen@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Still better than THIS, so yes.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't think you understand 40k

Pro.... you're transported to the Star Trek Universe. Con... it's still year 2025.

[–] TypFaffke@feddit.org 7 points 2 days ago

Yay, united Ireland!

I'd take it if it was, "but there is a 10% chance you die."

As it is, no deal.

[–] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean, it's the 40k universe, there's a 100% you gonna die. So, really, it does fit your criteria... just in a roundabout way.

[–] Objection@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There are fates worse than death in the 40k universe, like being captured by the dark eldar. If I can take a method of suicide with me, then maybe (though even then, my soul is going to end up in the immaterium).

Also if you die in 40k your human soul either gets devoured by demons or drafted by definitely-not-a-new-Chaos-God

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Nah, if you work for the empire they'll strip away your flesh and make you work forever.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 191 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (8 children)

Oh Hell no, I don't push the button!

It said shifting into the Star Trek universe; it didn't say anything about time travel or ending up on a planet other than Earth.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 63 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Also thanks to Discovery's writers, in the further away future there's also a few centuries of dogshit living until they restore the Federation

[–] ragas@lemmy.ml 17 points 3 days ago

I still do not recognise this shit as being part of star trek.

World War III ends and Earth is left devastated, mostly because of nuclear warfare. Most of the major cities are left in ruins with few remaining governments and the death total reaching 600 million.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Star_Trek

Push the button. Only 600 million is a generous offer. This timeline will have many more.

[–] ragas@lemmy.ml 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yep, we are on track already to live in the star trek universe. We just have to live through WW3 first and it will be paradise.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 46 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

The 40k timeline is basically just normal Earth for a few more centuries at least. The Emperor is just out there, somewhere, fucking with shit.

In fact, there would be a golden age on the horizon

[–] Donkter@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah ironically it would probably be better to be in the 40k universe if it was current day.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's basically Star Trek for like a millennium or so if I recall. Things didn't always suck so hard in 40k, it took a while for it to become the grimdark hell it is in the 42nd century

There's at least a period where you can be a kick ass cyborg building megastructures without too much body horror at a minimum

At least in both of them humanity survived to explore the stars.

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Smashes button

I dared and....

...yay?

[–] nialv7@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You get transported into the Star Trek universe.

But

You will be transported by the Star Trek transporter.

Is that still you?

[–] ynthrepic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yes, unless consciousness is more than the totality of our biology and there really is a soul or something erather.

[–] wetsoggybread@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Either I'm in the star trek universe or I'm dead and some other smhuck has to live with my choices

[–] meejle@lemmy.world 74 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So I get transported to a futuristic utopia with Replicators and Holodecks, or I immediately get killed by a Space Marine or whatever.

Either way I don't have to live in this shithole any more. 🤷‍♂️ I'm pressing it.

[–] pressanykeynow@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

With all the endless war the Imperium is so huge most of the humans probably never saw war and space marines are so rare it's almost impossible for you to be killed by them.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 49 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Even on "safe" planets, the average person is basically a slave doing endless, arduous labor with no concern for their lives or well-being, all under the merciless thumb of Imperial dogma. It's just a bad place to end up.

[–] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 44 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Wait... Are you talking about 40k or current day ?

[–] wizblizz@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago
[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So like... No different than here.

You narrowly avoid Warhammer as you see you're on the Enterprise. You're called for a mission. Shortly before you're beamed down you see it. You look down.Your heart starts racing. You're wearing a red shirt.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 22 points 3 days ago

Still a more merciful death than Warhammer, I'd guess

When talking about the Star Trek universe, it's important to designate both what time and which one.

Before first contact in any universe? No.

Prime universe? Sure.

Kelvin? Sure, why not?

Mirror universe? No.

Totally-not-the-mirror-universe-from-Picard? Fuck no.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago (4 children)

You get transported to the Trek prime universe. You come out at Wolf-359, and the Borg approach.

[–] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 21 points 3 days ago

I, for one, welcome our new Borg overlords.

That's a 90% chance I get to see a better future and a 10% I'm still stuck in hell. Yes please deliver button. I do not want to remain here to see what is coming either way. I will take those odds happily. So very very tired of living in America. I hope we are heading for Star Trek still but we have to go through World War 3 to get there. Might be Dune though.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Warhammer 40K universe in 2025 would just be the Event Horizon universe 22 years before Event Horizon. ;)

I mean

In the 40k universe I'd probably die very very fast unless I became a target to one of those BDSM Elves?

I would give my best Matt Damon in Interstellar ".... that's the best chance I have had in years." And then smash my face jnto the button as hard as I could.
